The Fairytale Shawl

Today, I introduce to you the Fairytale Shawl!

I've had quite the time coming up with this pattern. I was nervous that it would look "unprofessional" in the crochet world because of how it curled at the bottom. However, I truly love this design and am proud to call it my very first shawl pattern that I created all on my own!

I've had two balls of Bernat Pop in Violet Vision sitting in my closet for months now, and I knew I wanted to make a shawl with them, but I was tired of the Granny Stripe Shawl that I've been making (I made quite a few for loved ones for Christmas last year). I wanted it to be a design all my own that let the colors of the yarn do a lot of the work. I think this pattern does just that, but I also admit that I would love this in a solid white color. I'm currently making my own in white, and am giving this colorful one to my niece (it's way too small for me -- two balls of Bernat Pop make a shawl/cape suitable for a child only).

Sizes and yarn yardage

 Child: 560 yards
Small: 1120 yards
Medium: 1680 yards
Large: 2800 yards
Extra-Large: 4480 yards

Sizes and yarn yardage adjustable according to how many rows of this shawl you are willing to do. I roughly estimated these sizes due to how much yarn the puff stitch rows take up, and this shawl grows very quickly.

Yarn pictured is Bernat Pop in Violet Visions from Yarnspirations. I used two balls or about 560 yards to make the child size.

Materials Needed:

* 4ply/worsted weight or aran yarn (see size/yardage chart above)
* 5.5 MM (I) crochet hook
* Scissors
* Yarn needle
*Stitch markers if desired

Gauge and tension

Not important for this project

Skill level

Easy/Intermediate

Terms Used: 

• Ch - chain
• Rnd - round
• Slst - slip stitch
• Dc - double crochet
• Hdc - half-double crochet
• Beg - beginning
• Ch sp - chain space
• Tr - treble crochet
• Inc - increase space
• St/sts - stitch/stitches
• Ch2sp - chain 2 space

Pattern

Note: Shawl will more than likely curl up nicely, as pictured on cover page. Ch2sp is an increase.

 Foundation: ch6. join with slst

Row 1: ch3. dc3. ch2. dc4.

These next rows will be repeated until the shawl reaches desired length.

Row 2: ch3. dc1 into same stitch as ch3. ch1. Repeat into next sts until ch2sp from previous rnd: dc1+ch1 into each st. into ch2sp, dc1+ch2+dc1. repeat dc1+ch1 into each st until last st. Place 2 dc into last st.

Row 3: ch2. puff st into same st. Puff st into all ch sp up to ch2sp. Into ch2sp: puff st+ch2+puff st. puff st into all remaining st to last st. In last st place 1 puff st + 1hdc.

Row 4: ch4. tr1 into same st. Ch1. repeat into every st to ch2sp: tr1+ch1. into ch2sp: tr1+ch2+tr1. repeat tr1+ch1 until last st. into last st tr2.

Row 5: ch3. dc1 into same st. Repeat to ch2sp: dc2 into each ch sp. Into ch2sp: dc2+ch2+dc2. Repeat to last st: dc2 into each ch sp. Dc2 between last two tr from previous rnd.
